Space Age
Portfolio I
As I was Creating this Track I wasn't sure of what direction I wanted to go, or how I was going to go about doing it. So, I just made a drum beat and that made choices easier from there, I noticed there was potential for a trap beat, but after I was finished I noticed it sounded more like something you might hear on a video game.
I started with my drum beat 1st. I went with a basic drum rhythm in both Section A and section B, just a straight beat, and just modified it some. I added 16th notes to Hi-Hats throughout the the beat, and I placed a few kick drums in places to give it a better groove. The time signature of the song is 4/4, and the tempo is 135 BPM in section A, slowing down to 120BPM in Section B.
The key of F#m was used in section A, and the relative key (A major) was used in Section B. The chord progression in section A is : i- v7- VI- iiËš (F#m- C#m7- D- G#Ëš) and section B is: IV- IVsus4- V- Vsus4 (D- Dsus4- E- Esus4). Throughout the whole song, only one 7th chord was used. The melody just came to me note by note as I was writing.
The audio Track you hear is a Power drill. I decided to use it out of multiple other things because I felt it was perfect for the vibe of the song. It gave it more of a video game feel. I did have a few other choices I was going to choose, but couldn't make them work.
When mixing the power drill, I added Reverb to give it more color, and so it wouldn't be too distracting. I added EQ and Compression as well to help with clarity. I felt the original recording was too distracting. That was the hardest thing to make fit in the mix since it was an obnoxious sound, but I'm satisfied!
Moonlight Drive
Another Class Assignment that I decided to finish and upload. This one has more of a country\Bluegrass feel to it. When I'm creating these, I don't start with a specific genre. I just start creating, and the let the feel of the beat tell me what instruments they want. The song is In the key of E Major, at 120 BPM. The chords used are |E |A |F#m |B for section A, and for section B: | i | VI | Vsus2 | Vsus4 | Section B is in the restive key of E Major, which is C# Minor. Enjoy!!

All throughout the month as I was editing, and designing each game, I kind of had an idea of what I wanted and what vibes were necessary for each environment. There's a lot of thinking involved when deciding what sounds to use, and how to alter it to be able to be used in different environments.
Every one of the game designs are assignments for school, to get me to understand the basics of sound design for games.

"Dead Enemies" - Dark Ride
The first time I auditioned “Dead Enemies” by Dark Ride in the online library I immediatley decided to remix it. I really love the Main Guitar Riff, and the shredding Guitar Solo’s.

No Guitar or Percussion
I had limited time and limited also limited use of musicians. Also, there was already enough instrumentation within the song for me to add much else. So, I decided a shaker after the intro would be cool, along with a few pinch harmonics.
Lots of time musicians like to have different versions available for a song for different reasons. To play along, rewriting, or lip syncing even, or just for mixing purposes. So, I wanted these versions to be available.

Original Chorus
I wanted to give the song more of a faster harder sound. so, I double timed the section to give an idea of how it would sound.

For the sound design variation, I decided to just keep it simple by only adding a synthesizer. I felt electronic sounds, and synths wouldn't fit with this genre, so I only added a bit.
